Therapy for Individuals
IN-PERSON & ONLINE IN MONTCLAIR, NJ
Get to know and heal yourself, part by part.
“I am constantly being encouraged to pluck out one aspect of myself and present this as the meaningful whole, eclipsing or denying the other parts of self.”
― Audre Lorde, Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches
Every part of us has a story and a reason for being here.
Some parts learned to protect, others hold pain or carry the weight of what we’ve been through. They formed from early roles we played, lessons about what was safe to show, and ways we learned to stay connected or survive.
In therapy, we get curious about these parts, not to change or silence them, but to understand what they’ve been trying to do for us and what they might need now.
You might recognize some of these parts in yourself:
People-Pleasing
Looks like: Over-apologizing, carrying more than your share, hyper-independence.
Feels like: resentment, exhaustion, unseen, insecurity.
Anxiety
Looks like: scanning for danger, imagining “what ifs,” & worst-case scenarios.
Feels like: tense, distracted, unable to relax, anhedonia.
Grief
Looks like: withdrawing, unexpected tears.
Feels like: sadness, emptiness, longing.
Anger
Looks like: snapping at others, slamming doors, storming off.
Feels like: hot, explosive, scary.
Perfectionism
Looks like: triple-checking emails, needing things to be “just right.”
Feels like: worry, being drained.
An Inner Critic
Looks like: replaying conversations, second-guessing decisions.
Feels like: shame, heaviness, never measuring up.

-
That’s a great question. Not everyone connects with worksheets or traditional “homework.” While reflection between sessions can be helpful, we’ll find what fits your learning style, whether that’s through conversation, noticing patterns in real time, or creative ways of integrating what comes up in therapy.
-
Sometimes we’ll talk about what’s happening right now; other times, we’ll slow down and notice what’s happening inside you, the thoughts, emotions, body cues, or the parts that take over in certain situations. I might bring in mindfulness, journaling, or creative prompts when it helps things click in a different way. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s understanding yourself with more clarity and compassion.
-
